Branding :: ABSOLUT Art

"London has such a fascinating and rich history which has inspired me over the years. For ABSOLUT London I chose to re-create 7 iconic characters from different eras who are largely defined by their style as well as their impactful contribution to London's culture at the time." - Artist Jamie Hewlett

ABSOLUT vodka has commissioned Jamie Hewlett to create a special limited edition Absolut London bottle in celebration of London’s creativity and rich style heritage.  Set against a London backdrop, the bottle features key characters from the past who have influenced and shaped London’s present fashion scene, from a Dickensian gent and 18th Century Dandy, through to Pinstripe gent, 60’s chick, SKA, Punk and  80’s Casual.

This is a product + artist coup for me, as Hewlett's style has been a fixture in both the music and comic scene for the past 20 years.  Most recognizably & recent, his heavy-lidded angular characters have taken the form of the virtual band Gorillaz which he launched in 2000 with Blur's Damon Albarn.  He's also the original artist behind the post-apocalypically chaotic world of the comic Tank Girl.

While this would be an opportune time to get the video for my favourite Gorillaz song on here (19-2000), I think his intro for the 2008 Beijing Olympics is a perfect example of his style.  I'd also like to point out that if I'm able to get my hands on one of those bottles it's perfectly alright to drink for the sake and celebration of art.

Ads :: Cleaning Off The Top Layer

CopyWith teeth this white, nothing will stop you from showing off your smile.
Advertising Agency: Canvas, Cape Town, South Africa
Copywriter: Jacques Laubscher
Published: January, 2012
via Ads of the World

I generally enjoy my humour the same way I like my Milky Ways.
Dark (and melty).

Canvas advertising in South Africa has some stunning one-off print ads
using ridiculously high quality photography and pithy visual jokes.

This set for Love Your Smile teeth whitening is beautiful in the most morbid way possible.
I'm unclear as to whether or not Ad Standards Canada would allow bus stop posters near a Safeway avec chopped-off-finger action, but the  edge would be enough to have me seriously
considering a New Year's tooth whitening using their products.

America's Golden Girl Turns 90

Betty White for Richard Hudnut hair products (circa 1959).

Betty White is the consummate female comedian in my opinion:
meless, beautiful, shameless, sexy & completely unafraid to make fun of herself.

In addition, she's never hesitated to become the spokeswoman for every and any product she could lend her visage & reputation to (including Tyco Toys, Q-Tip, Snickers and more).  In my opinion, she's the queen of celebrity promotions (somehow spanning 5 decades without ruining her image or celebrity pull).

America's most trusted celebrity, the ever stunning Betty White turned 90 on January 17th.

Nerdery :: Heroes Never Get What They Want For Christmas

Cap isn't infuriated that the socks are laden with Nazi propaganda.  He's pissed that they're pink.
(Nick Fury with those 3D glasses made me weep)
Beautiful addition to the "Great Comics That Never Happened".

For Christmas, I Want The Smooth Taste of Chesterfield

In festive tribute to last year's my Edward Bernays holiday contribution,
I bring you my best wishes with 2 weeks 'til Christmas from behind a phlegm-rattled cough and a 1942 wish for peace.

I'm also endlessly impressed that their entire tag line was synthesized into "They Satisfy".
It's a Christmas miracle.

Documentary :: Nazi: The Occult Conspiracy

On the coattails of the inspiring Allied soldiers' stories from my recently reviewed D-Day To Victory,
Nazi: The Occuly Conspiracy is the scariest documentary I've ever seen.

Symbology, pagan rituals replacing Christian festivals, controlling bloodlines and Norse mythology detailed like never before, explaining the more bizarre of Hitler's tactics during his rise to power and how ancient stories helped his elite fuel Hitler's God-like influence.

The documentary discusses how pre-WWII Germany's belief in the occult was strongly tied to anti-Jewish sentiment,
the possibility that the Aryan race was the remains of the people of Atlantis,
and even the influence of Hindu reincarnation beliefs were all brought together by the Nazi party.

I had no idea that Heinrich Himmler funded expeditions to find the Holy Grail (unsuccessfully) and dozens of other ancient beliefs that the Nazi party used to solidify a nation under their new religion during the lead up to World War II

The ultimate manipulation of rhetoric.
